What this generator prints

This page hides your word list in a letter grid and fills the leftover cells with random letters. Use it for classrooms, vocabulary practice, homeschooling, kids’ activities, parties, holidays, or language learning. The puzzle is built in your browser. Nothing you type is stored on a server.

Questions about the Word Search Generator?

How do I make my own word search?

Type one word or phrase per line, then choose a grid size, difficulty, and theme. The preview updates automatically. Empty lines are skipped, duplicates are removed, and phrases keep their readable form in the word list. Use Regenerate Puzzle only when you want a different arrangement.

Can I print the word search puzzle?

Yes. Use Print or Save as PDF. The page is laid out for A4 and also prints cleanly on Letter. Only the puzzle (and the answer key, if you left it on) is included — not the form or the rest of the site.

Can words appear backwards?

Only on Hard. Easy places words left to right and top to bottom. Medium adds two downward diagonals. Hard also allows right to left, bottom to top, and reverse diagonals.

Can I create a word search with my own vocabulary?

Yes. Replace the example list with classroom words, names, holiday terms, or any language you are learning. If you are planning study sessions around that list, the Study Planner can hold the rest of the week.

Does the generator include an answer key?

Yes, when Include answer key is on. The key is a second page with the same grid. Hidden words are marked with bold letters, outlined cells, a light gray fill, and a line through each word, so they stay readable in grayscale.

How many words can I add?

There is no small fixed classroom cap. A word cannot be longer than the grid, and a very long list may not fit. If placement fails, the page tells you — it does not drop words on its own. Try a larger grid or a shorter list.
